Gastronomy on Lanzarote

The gastronomy on Lanzarote has a lot to offer.

Typical specialities are fresh fish like Vieja (Parrotfish), Sama (Seabream) and Atun (tunefish).

Goat and rabbit are the local meat specialities. From there comes the nickname "Conecheros" (conejo means rabbit) for the people of Lanzarote.

The local dishes are served with Papas Arugadas, this are wrinckeled potatos coocked in salt water (this used to be sea water), and the typical Mojo sauses.

Also the Spanish kitchen is well represented.

Tapas such as Gambas al Ajillo (prawns in garlic sause), Pimientos del Padron (small green peppers of which some are very hot, some not hot a all), Jamon Serrano (curred ham) and Pulpo (octopus) can be enjoyed in lots of the restaurants and bars.

The typical drink is of course the excellent Lanzarote wine.

The vacation resorts offer hundreds of multinational restaurants, but traditional cooking of the islands is worth seeking out.

The people loving great food will certainly enjoy the gastronomy in Lanzarote.
